Primitive Fishing Tournament & Camping Outing

C4aC is making a number of changes over the next year. Many of the changes are designed to bring our members together in an effort to mitigate veteran suicide through various camaraderie events. One of the events we are discussing is the introduction of the areas only primitive fishing tournament. If we feel there is enough interest, this tournament would be coupled with a 3 to 5-day camping event. The idea is to bring our members together in a setting much like you may have experienced in the military...only a lot more fun. We would like to bring in survival specialists that can display their own primitive fishing equipment and discuss techniques. At the end of the event, we would host a 1 or 2-day fishing tournament (details pending) that would require all fishing rods to be manufactured from natural materials. Monofilament line would be allowed, but not to exceed 6 lb. test. Artificial lures should be created using rubbish, with a single hook attached. Wire can be used to secure hooks to lures and create guides for the rods. Fishing would be allowed from shore or from a non-motorized kayak or canoe (paddles only, no pedals). For participants with documented or obvious physical disabilities that prevent them from paddling, a trolling motor or pedal kayak will be allowed. Each participant must either have a participating teammate, or you will be paired with another participant. After all, this is about camaraderie, and we want to ensure the safety of all participants.
As our Board of Directors reviews and approves details, we will make them available on this website. If you would like to make suggestions regarding format, rules or location, please email us at admin@castingforacause.net.
