Women Fishing Competitively

Recently I received a message from Amy Lockhart, one of our female disabled veteran members, asking if we could place her in one of the Power Pole Pro Redfish tournaments. After beginning a fundraiser to take care of the entry and travel fees, we fell considerably short of what would be required to enter the anticipated mid-January tournament. However, since the new year has just begun, we knew we would have several opportunities to get her in the tournament she wanted to participate in.

While looking through the tournament schedule to see where we could best find a spot, another approaching Power Pole tournament in Louisiana brought a friend and competing female angler Melissa Larson to mind. Melissa is well-known on the Louisiana redfish tournament circuit where she and fellow angler April Dubroc regularly compete. Melissa can be seen most recently participating as a referee in the Elite Fishing League Tour on the Discovery channel. These women really know how to fish and have earned the respect of their fishing counterparts. A few messages and a short phone call later would pair Amy and Melissa to fish in the upcoming Power Pole Pro Redfish Go Live event in Louisiana on February 26 and 27.
