Women Fishing Competitively
Recently I received a message from Amy Lockhart, one of our female disabled veteran members, asking if we could place her in one of the Power Pole Pro Redfish tournaments. After beginning a fundraiser to take care of the entry and travel fees, we fell considerably short of what would be required to enter the anticipated mid-January tournament. However, since the new year has just begun, we knew we would have several opportunities to get her in the tournament she wanted to participate in.

While looking through the tournament schedule to see where we could best find a spot, another approaching Power Pole tournament in Louisiana brought a friend and competing female angler Melissa Larson to mind. Melissa is well-known on the Louisiana redfish tournament circuit where she and fellow angler April Dubroc regularly compete. Melissa can be seen most recently participating as a referee in the Elite Fishing League Tour on the Discovery channel. These women really know how to fish and have earned the respect of their fishing counterparts. A few messages and a short phone call later would pair Amy and Melissa to fish in the upcoming Power Pole Pro Redfish Go Live event in Louisiana on February 26 and 27.

To top it off, Chaz Champagne of Matrix Shad agreed to provide all of the artificial baits they would need for the tournament and Jason Nance with Overslot Outdoors is providing their tournament jerseys. Additionally, Wanda Steward contacted us to provide additional marketing support as needed. To say that we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of our fishing family is truly an understatement. We are truly blessed to be in the competitive fishing industry and providing opportunities to those who have given so much of themselves to our country. The donations of these two retailers combined with the ongoing support of our sponsors TelConn Manufacturing, The Local on 17 restaurant and Ashley Boyette State Farm allow us to make dreams become realities for our disabled veterans.
If you have an interest in participating as an alternate captain using your boat and allowing one of our disabled veteran members to fish with you, talk to us about becoming an associate member. Your support allows us to broaden our operating area and establish a larger client base as we seek to end veteran suicides and provide physical and psychological healing for our veteran members.
Watch for Amy and Melissa to go live during the Power Pole Pro Redfish tour and show them your support!
